Sunpower is the original developer of free-piston Stirling engines. Free-piston machines are mechanical devices that do not rely on kinematic, or crank, mechanisms to extract or provide power to the machine.
There are four main categories of Sunpower free-piston machines:
Sunpower is supported by a vibrant R&D group who work closely with customers to develop new solutions or engineer Sunpower's engines into new products. Sunpower also maintains a healthy intellectual property/licensing business which can provide customers unique and exclusive positions to our intellectual property. Most recently, Sunpower engineering services have focused on application-specific engineering, as the technology becomes part of commercially-available products.
